Packing and protection in St Ives

Two protection jobs live inside every move. One protects what you own; the other protects the house it is leaving. We schedule both, because neither happens well by improvisation.

Packing: what you own

Booked as its own visit the day or two before, with the 2 + 1 crew at $250/hr. Materials are charged as used, never as a bundle you did not open.

  • Cartons labelled to the room they land in, not the room they left
  • Paper for crockery and glass; bubble reserved for the genuinely fragile
  • Framed photos and art wrapped upright, moved together, never flat-stacked
  • Wardrobe cartons so hanging clothes travel hanging
  • Books in small cartons, because physics does not care how sentimental they are
  • A "last carton" packed with you: kettle, chargers, remotes, the things you need at 7pm that night

Paper first, labels always.

The protection run: the house

The first scheduled step of every moving day, before the truck opens. In mid-century houses it is half the reason to hire carefully.

  • Corflute board over floor-to-ceiling glass on the carry route
  • Felt runners on polished boards, every hallway, tread and landing
  • Corner guards on door frames, newel posts and exposed timber
  • Ground boards across lawn and garden beds on long carries
  • Lift and corridor protection where strata requires it, arranged with the building
  • All of it listed in the written plan, so you can see what is covered before the day

Packing folds into any house move or downsizing plan; the protection run is simply part of how we move.
